Comeback Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid year, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him falling of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-time coach his previous coach.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks his initial championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court from that period of that year.

Victory also means Medvedev has won twenty-one victories at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters at once, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his past six title deciders, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching play style and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had caused some to question if his skill to play at the top level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete assertively, supported by an improved serving game.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the final five games to take the lead.

The competitors traded break points in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional title, took control to force a final set.

Moutet rescued 4 initial break points in a tight final set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the win with a rally at the net, with Moutet incapable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
